Spin Scooters are Coming to South Side Flats

Spin scooters are coming to the South Side of Pittsburgh — just not to East Carson! Due to the high density of pedestrians, car traffic, and well, bars, it will not be possible to ride or park Spin scooters on East Carson St.

Scooters were previously not allowed in the South Side due to a lack of parking. We’ve rectified the lack of parking by installing dozens of scooter corrals — and you can only at the designated parking corrals, shown in the Spin app. These parking corrals are located at the end of most blocks (besides East Carson St.) – see the map below to find the corrals and scooters for your next spin.

You can ride scooters:

  • in bike lanes

  • on neighborways (Sarah St., Muriel St., and Wharton St.)

  • on streets (25 mph max), but not East Carson

  • on paved, shared-use trails (like riverfront trails)

Only park scooters in new scooter corrals

You may have seen some new markings on the streets of the South Side — those are parking corrals for Spin scooters. You can ONLY park scooters in these new parking corrals — you will not be able to end your trip unless you have parked at a scooter corral.

Move PGH, and DOMI worked together to create a unique parking plan for scooters in Pittsburgh to provide an easy and visible place to find and park scooters.

This strategy of "corralling" the scooters in their own tiny parking lots helps keep scooters off sidewalks so we can keep sidewalks clear for pedestrians.

What do you mean by "tiny parking lots?"

Scooter corrals take up less than half the curb space as a standard vehicle parking spot. Each parking corral can house up to 10 scooters -- that's the most efficient use of space of any transportation option in the city!

Here is a map of the scooter corrals on the South Side:
