Where to Ride Spin Scooters

Did You Know that E-scooters are Vehicles?

Because scooters are vehicles, you have to follow traffic laws when you ride Spin scooters in Pittsburgh. There are also unique rules for scooters — different from other vehicles and different from rules for scooters in other cities.  

This post explains the three places where you can ride Spin scooters in Pittsburgh and a list of places you cannot. The “no” list is much longer, so if you just stick with the approved spots, you don’t need to memorize the “no” places — because no is everywhere else. Questions about parking? Head this way!

In Pittsburgh, You Can Ride Spin Scooters :

  1. in bike lanes

  2. on streets (25 mph max) 

  3. on paved, shared-use trails (like riverfront trails)

You Cannot Ride Spin Scooters: 

  1. on Sidewalks

  2. in Tunnels

    • Why are we saying this? You know it’s because someone did it. 

  3. on Streets with speed limits over 25 mph

  4. on Highways

  5. in Parks 

  6. in Cemeteries

  7. on Private Property

  8. on Bridges leading out of Pittsburgh

  9. on E. Carson St & other parts of the Southside

Other Important Rules for Scooters in Pittsburgh

  1. Helmets are strongly encouraged.

  2. Must be 18+ to ride a Spin scooter 

  3. Only one person on a scooter at a time

  4. Yield to pedestrians

  5. Ride sober

  6. Scooters cannot leave the City of Pittsburgh

    • Spin scooters will not work outside of Pittsburgh

    • Avoid riding on bridges that take you outside the city

When you park at Mobility Hubs, you can earn credit towards your next ride.
