Harrisburg is Voting on the Future of Scooters - Show Your Support!

The Pennsylvania State Senate is considering Senate Bill 692, which would allow a permanent shared e-scooter program in the City of Pittsburgh and other small cities in the Commonwealth. Currently, e-scooters operate in Pittsburgh under a two-year pilot. This pilot is set to expire in July 2023. Without passing this legislation, shared e-scooters would no longer be available in the City of Pittsburgh come July.

We see scooters as a critical component of our transportation ecosystem, demonstrated by the million trips taken by riders during the pilot. Riders have been using scooters to connect to transit, commute, go to the grocery store, and participate in all aspects of life. Surveys show that scooters have replaced hundreds of thousands of car trips, making our streets safer and decreasing carbon emissions. Our scooter riders are more likely to be low-income, less likely to own a car, and more likely to depend on public transit. Scooters are providing critical connections that support Pittsburgh’s goals of decreasing dependency on single-occupancy vehicles, promoting safer streets, and providing low-cost and accessible transportation options.

If scooters have improved how you get around, we ask you to contact your representatives to show your support for this bill to ensure scooters can remain in Pittsburgh. We’ve drafted a template email you can send your representatives here. You can find your legislator’s contact information here. We encourage you to add your personal stories of how scooters have improved your transportation access!
